Your Opinion is Valued!

I’m posting this survey request as I feel it is important to be able to change the way stillbirths are perceived and how bereaved families are cared for.  Please consider taking the time to read and forward to others.  Thank you!

The International Stillbirth Alliance (ISA) is working on the follow-up to the 2011 Lancet Stillbirth Series.  As part of the follow-up, the ISA would like to hear from care providers, parents, and general community members in high-income countries about what needs to be done to prevent stillbirth and improve care for families who have a stillborn baby. As a member organization of the ISA, Still Life Canada is assisting with the dissemination of the surveys in Canada.  For information about completing an online survey on stillbirth action, please click the link that fits you.

Christmas Flash Mob

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the shopping, the decorating, the baking, the cooking, the overbooking…let’s remember the real reason for Christmas.

Wishing you peace this Advent season as we prepare for the arrival of our greatest gift, Baby Jesus.

If this season is particularly difficult and you don’t want to do the shopping, decorating, baking etc. know that it is ok. It is part of the grieving process. For many years after we lost our son, I just couldn’t bring myself to put up the tree and do extra joyful “Christmas-y” activities. Other than going to Mass on Christmas Eve, I had to give myself permission to skip some of the traditions even though I felt pressured to “just be happy”.

I was “happy-sad” that my baby boy was going to experience Christmas in heaven and feel the pure joy of meeting baby Jesus himself. Oh how I miss you my beautiful Little Love, kiss Baby Jesus for us and feel our kisses fly up to heaven too.

*Note that at the end of this video, there is a young infant that is featured as Baby Jesus.

Mary, Did You Know? Sung by Pentatonix

I love this song, but this rendition by Pentatonix in particular, sent chills down my spine when I first heard it.  It has a lot more meaning now than it did before Keaton was born.

These lyrics in particular, take my breath away:

Did you know
That your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little baby
You’ve kissed the face of God
This sleeping child you’re holding
Is the Great I Am

Here are the lyrics to the entire song:
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered
Will soon deliver you

Mary, did you know

That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will calm a storm with His hand?
Did you know
That your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little baby
You’ve kissed the face of God

Mary, did you know?

The blind will see
The deaf will hear
And the dead will live again
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of the Lamb

Mary, did you know

That your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know
That your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding
Is the Great I Am

Lyrics and music written by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene
Performed by Pentatonix

Little Mysteries

This is a beautiful article called “Losing a little one a great mystery”, written about the recent loss of baby Josephine and the blessings she has brought to her family.

Anna writes “I want to assure all parents who have lost children at any age that their little ones have a great mission: to inspire others to love. Our babies do this by their simple fact of existing; they witness to God’s beauty and goodness, and their innocent lives inspire others to generosity and kindness. May your little saints in heaven ever guide you and bring you hope.”  Well said Anna.  Our hearts go out to you and your family.  I remember too clearly the early days of missing Keaton.

Many blessings…

Angel Dresses

Do you sew?  Are you wondering what to do with your old wedding or grad dress?  Is it just hanging in your closet waiting to be useful in some way?  Read how volunteers sew beautiful burial gowns for babies.

According to the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Times, this organization collects “donated old and new wedding dresses, bridesmaids attire, grad gowns, and any formal wear with fabric the seamstresses can use. Kowalski is also on the hunt for donated trim or notions to enhance the gowns”.  Read more about this “labour of love” and how this team of seamstresses are making a difference for bereaved families.
